A dozen Marion County Sheriff's Office employees and volunteers rolled up their sleeves and worked with the wait staff at the Applebee's restaurant on Lancaster Drive Thursday evening, September 22nd. It was all for a good cause; raising money to support the Special Olympics.
This was the 3rd year our Office has participated in the Tip-A-Cop program. Deputies, Office staff, Cadets and a Commander interacted with the patrons and collected a total of $1100 for the program.
"This was a wonderful opportunity to give back to our community. The patrons and restaurant staff were both pleased that we were there. I came away with a new-found respect for the wait staff at Applebee's. They're awesome" Commander Sheila Lorance commented.
Participants from our Office included: Commander Sheila Lorance, Deputy Teri Gill, Deputy Connie Phillis, Deputy Patty Beatty, Deputy Paul Beatty, Deputy Jeremy Schwab, Deputy Erik Douglass, Mgmt. Analyst Allycia Weathers, and Cadets Jeremy Flicker, Bethany Ross, Eli Kaspari & Marilyn Brooks.
100% of the proceeds from the evening will be distributed locally to directly benefit the Special Olympic athletes in the Marion County. It will be utilized for training and travel expenses as well as uniforms and sports equipment. For more information, contact the Special Olympics, http://www.soor.org/ .
If you are interested in more information about how you can participate, please contact Deputy Erik Douglass, Marion County Sheriff's Office, edouglass@co.marion.or.us .
