Oregon State Police (OSP) Arson & Explosives Section is continuing the investigation into a Wednesday morning incident south of Silverton in which a mailbox was damaged by an explosive device. Three unknown suspects were seen leaving the area in a vehicle and OSP is asking for the public's help to identify them.
On July 13, 2011 at approximately 11:50 a.m. unidentified persons placed an improvised explosive device inside a mailbox in the 700 block of Deer Creek Road SE about five miles south of Silverton. The device exploded, causing approximately $100 damage.

One of the residents and a neighbor heard the explosion. The neighbor saw an unknown make or model four-door passenger vehicle, similar to a Honda Accord, with three males leaving the scene northbound. The vehicle was described as having a "poor paint job" similar to black primer. The driver was described as a younger-aged male with long dark hair.
OSP has not received information regarding any other similar incidents in that area.
Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to call OSP Detective Howard Greer at (503) 934-0328.
