SHERIFF'S OFFICE MOURNS THE PASSING OF DEPUTY KATHLEEN FOX
Posted: June 30th, 2011 9:24 AM
Deputy Kathleen Fox was known to her co-workers as a hard working, compassionate deputy. She came to work at the Marion County Sheriff's Office on September 12th, 2005. Kathy died on June 26th after a courageous battle with cancer.
Deputy Fox often worked in the intake and release section of the Marion County jail. She was known to treat every incoming inmate with respect and empathy. During her almost six year career served became a Field Training Deputy, mentoring new employees and sharing her knowledge. Her skills were quickly recognized by management and she was often asked to serve as an acting supervisor when needed.
Her devotion to her work continued as she battled through her treatment. Although she lived in Cloverdale, near Tillamook, she maintained a small travel trailer in an RV park in Salem, living there during the week and commuting home to be with her husband and seven children on her days off. She continued this routine until she was no longer able to work.
Sheriff Jason Myers commented, "Kathy's dedication and commitment to this Office and our community was selfless. She always put others ahead of herself. She came to work everyday with a smile on her face and a desire to serve. Our Office mourns her loss."
Deputies from the Enforcement, Operations and Parole & Probation Divisions have volunteered to cover shifts at the jail so that those deputies who worked closest with Deputy Fox will be able to attend her service. Their decision to do this is a compelling sign of their respect for Deputy Fox.
The family will attend a ceremony to celebrate her life on Thursday evening at 6:00pm, at the First Christian Church, 2203 Fourth Street in Tillamook. The service is open to the public and the media.
