Man Arrested Trying to Break Into Vending Machines at Interstate 5 Rest Area North of Eugene

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers arrested a 41-year old Hillsboro man early Wednesday morning after receiving a report of a subject attempting to break into vending machines at Interstate 5 rest area north of Eugene.
According to OSP Trooper Todd Cutsforth, on July 27, 2011 at 2:17 a.m. troopers responded to the report at the southbound Oak Grove Rest Area and upon arrival found CHARLES WILLIAM KREIDER, age 41, from Hillsboro, hiding in the bushes. KREIDER had a backpack containing a drill, drill bits, other tools and a walkie-talkie. Information developed during the contact confirmed he attempted to break into the vending machines. He was also in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine.

Troopers also located the suspect's vehicle and found other evidence and another walkie-talkie. A woman in the car was questioned but wasn't arrested or cited.
KREIDER was arrested and lodged at the Linn County Jail on the following charges:
* Attempted Theft in the Second Degree
* Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree
* Unlawful Possession of Burglar Tools
* Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance - Methamphetamine
