Marion County Deputy Andrew Derschon arrested a Dayton man after he caused a family disturbance, assaulted his son, and threatened other family members at a camp site near Detroit Lake.
Michael J. Williams, 38, was arrested on charges of Assault IV, Menacing, and Supplying Alcohol to Minors at 12:25am, Wednesday morning. Deputy Derschon responded to a family member's call from a campsite on French Creek Road near Detroit. Williams and other family members were camping there and fishing in the river.

Dershon's investigation revealed that earlier in the evening, Williams had been fishing with his 16-year old son and 15-year old step son on bank of the Santiam River. The boys told deputies that every time they casted their fishing line, Williams told them they had to drink from a bottle containing rum and cola. They both drank some, but then placed the bottle to their lips to make it appear that they were drinking, in order to satisfy Williams. Williams continued to drink and became intoxicated to the point that he passed out and the boys took his car keys from him to prevent him from driving back to the campsite. He awoke and confronted his son, punching him in the face for taking the keys. Williams is a 6 foot 1 inch man, weighing almost 300 pounds. The boys returned to the camp on foot, intoxicated.
Williams later returned to the camp and confronted his wife and mother-in-law about the car keys. He then grabbed a 4' stick from the campfire and began swinging it at his wife and mother-in-law, coming close to striking them.
Family members calmed him down until deputies arrived and arrested him. He's being held at the Marion County Jail on $15,000 bail. He's due in court at 3:00pm, today. The boys remained in the custody of their mother and grandmother.
