After nearly three months of rides averaging 60 miles per day, Carl McDonald (from Texas) and his sister, Sallie McDonald (from Florida) are completing their cross-country bicycle journey in Astoria, Oregon at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 18, 2011. The ride has been in memory of Carl's daughter, Carlie, who was killed in 1998 by a drunk driver - her own mother- at age 5.

A former law enforcement officer and now the National Law Enforcement Initiatives Manager for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), Carl dedicated each day of the ride to a different victim of drunk driving. Photos and reflections of his journey are posted at http://warmersummers.com.
Carl and Sallie began their journey in late April in Amelia Island, Florida. By the time they finish their ride in Astoria, they will have ridden nearly 4,800 miles.
NOTE: They anticipate arriving in Astoria at 2:00 p.m. on Monday afternoon at the Columbia River Memorial Museum at 1792 Marine Drive. They will spend Tuesday in Astoria and travel by shuttle to Portland on Wednesday to catch their flight home early Thursday.
