DRIVER CITED FOLLOWING SERIOUS INJURY WRONG-WAY DRIVER CRASH - INTERSTATE 5 / WILSONVILLE

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Tuesday night's wrong-way single vehicle serious injury crash on Interstate 5 in the Wilsonville area that is leading to numerous charges for the car's driver.
According to Trooper Paul Geark, on July 19, 2011 at approximately 11:52 p.m. the OSP Northern Command Center dispatch received a report of a single vehicle traffic crash in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 near milepost 283 north of Wilsonville Road. Prior to the reported crash, troopers were attempting to locate a vehicle that was the subject of multiple calls about a wrong way driver traveling at a high rate of speed northbound in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 near milepost 282.



Preliminary investigation indicates the 1993 Geo four-door driven by WILLIAM G. HONDA, age 36, from Donald, was northbound in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 when it collided head-on into a barrier. HONDA was trapped inside the car and was extricated by Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue personnel. He was transported by ambulance to Oregon Health & Sciences University for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
HONDA was cited to appear in Clackamas County Circuit Court on the following charges:
* Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants
* Reckless Driving
* Recklessly Endangering Another Person
* Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree
* Unlawful Possession of less than an Ounce of Marijuana
Traffic was restricted to one lane for about an hour.
OSP troopers from the Tualatin work site are continuing the investigation. Wilsonville Police Department, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, and ODOT assisted at the scene.
